Motion SPM® Modules

onsemi / Fairchild Motion SPM® Modules integrate drive and protection circuitry into a single package. These modules simplify and accelerate designs and optimize efficiency. The SPM modules are sometimes referred to as Intelligent Power Modules (IPM). A full line of highly integrated smart-power modules is available for a wide range of energy-savvy applications. The onsemi SPM modules provide solutions that drive efficiency, reduce board space, improve system reliability, and speed up time-to-market.

Heat Pumps

The heat pump stands as a cornerstone of the global shift towards secure and sustainable heating, harnessing low-emissions electricity to provide reliable warmth. While its primary function is heating, innovative reverse cycle models also offer cooling capabilities. Moreover, by efficiently recovering waste heat and elevating its temperature to practical levels, heat pumps hold immense potential for energy conservation. As businesses pivot towards a low-carbon future, there's a growing demand for more efficient power semiconductors. Balancing cost, footprint, and efficiency is paramount in this pursuit. onsemi Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs) emerge as a noteworthy solution within the heat pump market, offering compact design, high power density, and advanced control features.

Advanced Motion SPM® 5 Modules

onsemi Advanced Motion SPM® 5 Modules provide a fully-featured and high-performance inverter output stage for AC Induction, BLDC, and PMSM motors. The SPM 5 modules integrate optimized gate drive of the built-in MOSFETs (FRFET® or SuperFET® technology) to minimize EMI and losses. This also provides multiple on-module protection features including under-voltage lockouts and thermal monitoring. The built-in high-speed HVIC requires only a single supply voltage and translates the incoming logic-level gate inputs to the high-voltage and high-current drive signals. onsemi SPM 5 modules come with separate open-source MOSFET terminals for each phase to support the widest variety of control algorithms.

Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs)

onsemi Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs) are highly integrated solid-state power switches integrating gate-drive circuitry based on IGBTs or MOSFETs in a single module. IPMs also include protection for power systems from issues such as short circuits, under voltages, and extreme temperatures. IPMs using 600V IGBTs are used in consumer and industrial applications for driving fans, pumps, and compressors. IPMs using 40V and 80V MOSFETs are increasingly used in automotive applications to drive electric fans and pumps.
