Infineon Technologies MERUS™ Class-D Audio ICs
Infineon MERUS™ Class-D Audio ICs are multilevel Class-D audio amplifier solutions featuring an embedded digital power management scheme. These ICs consume significantly less input power (~0.25W) and offer high power output in a small form without compromising the produced sound's quality. A power management algorithm dynamically adjusts the switching frequency and modulation scheme to optimize power loss and EMI across the output power range. Flexible power mode profiles allow users to utilize the multilevel switching technique for very low power loss or high audio performance. With increasing audio channels per product, traditional class D power amplifiers face design challenges in compact applications: low power efficiency, excessive heat generation (even at moderate listening levels), and the need for bulky, costly filters. Infineon’s multilevel class D audio amplifier circuit technology has made it possible to improve power consumption while reducing electromagnetic interference and out-of-band noise. Manufacturing costs can also be reduced by eliminating or minimizing the use of filters, helping to save design space. Infineon Class D Audio Amplifier ICs provide power efficiency, producing sound in the speakers, not heat to the surroundings, and they are easily integrated so they are heard, not seen, being smaller and lighter.
In addition to offering small, fully integrated single-chip audio solutions, the MERUS portfolio also includes discrete audio solutions with highly scalable driver and power MOSFET combinations. A broad range of class D audio applications with output power levels of 20W to over 2000W per channel can be covered. These devices are based on a multilevel switching technology that delivers monolithic amplifiers with total flexibility to optimize system solutions for size, performance, ease of design, and cost. MERUS™ applications include battery-operated speakers, voice-controlled active speakers, television sets, stereo HiFi, soundbars, monitors, power-over-ethernet (PoE), and multi-channel systems.
