Photoacoustic principle
Light pulses from an infrared source pass through an optical filter tuned to the CO2 absorption wavelength (λ = 4.2µm). CO2 molecules in the chamber absorb the light, creating a pressure wave called the photoacoustic effect. An acoustic detector optimized for low frequencies picks up the sound, which a microcontroller converts into a CO2 concentration reading. To ensure accuracy, the absorption chamber is isolated from external noise.
